Accuracy and Reproducibility Study
You are invited to participate in a study titled "Accuracy and Reproducibility Study of an Ashkenazi Jewish Panel". The goal of this study is to use blood samples from people who are known carriers or people who are affected with a Jewish genetic disease to test the equipment being used in the labs that test for these disorders. All samples collected will be anonymous and the lab will not know who they are from, just the disease to test for and a number. There will be no results given to participants or their physicians.
The study is sponsored by Luminex Molecular Diagnostics Inc. The Victor Center for Jewish Genetic Diseases is participating to recruit carriers and affected individuals to ensure that samples are obtained with proper informed consent and sent to the lab without any identifying information. The study has been approved by the IRB at Albert Einstein Medical Center, Philadelphia.
The study involves a consenting process, either in person or on the phone and obtaining a blood sample. This can be done in our office at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia or we will send you a kit to take to your doctor and ship to the lab after the consent has been done on the phone by our genetic counselor. You may receive some compensation for your time and travel.
If you are willing to participate, please call Faye Shapiro, MS, CGC at 215-456-3565 or contact her by email at shapirof@einstein.edu.
