Adele Schneider, MD, FACMG

Adele Schneider, MD was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. Following graduation from the Witwatersrand University Medical School in Johannesburg, she completed a pediatric residency at Wilmington Medical Center and Fellowship in Genetics and Metabolic diseases at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She has practiced Clinical Genetics at Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia since 1990 and as Director of Clinical Genetics since 1992. In 1995 she received the Einstein Physician Leadership Award and has been featured in “Top Docs for Kids” in Philadelphia magazine on several occasions. Dr. Schneider is the Director of the Victor Center for the Prevention of Jewish Genetic Disease Screening at EMC.
Faye L. Shapiro

Victor Center for the Prevention of Jewish Genetic Diseases

Faye Shapiro, MS, CGC, is a board-certified genetic counselor with over 15 years experience. As the genetic counselor for the Victor Center for the Prevention of Jewish Genetic Diseases, she provides genetic counseling for Ashkenazi Jewish genetic diseases to students, newlywed couples and other patients. Ms. Shapiro provides follow-up counseling and support for those found to be carriers. Along with Dr. Adele Schneider and other genetic counselors, Ms. Shapiro also provides prenatal pediatric and cancer genetic counseling. She may be reached at ShapiroF@einstein.edu.

Jodi D. Hoffman MD
Jodi D. Hoffman, MD, FACMG

Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Genetics and the Director of the Victor Center for the Prevention of Jewish Genetic Diseases at Tufts Medical Center. She received her medical degree at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx. There she published an article on screening and testing for Jewish Genetic Diseases. Dr. Hoffman then completed a Pediatric residency at Yale Children’s Hospital in New Haven. Dr. Hoffman’s Medical Genetics fellowship was completed at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia where she developed special interests in Connective Tissue Disorders, Kabuki syndrome, and the 22q11.2 syndrome. At Tufts Medical Center, in addition to the Victor Center Program and general medical genetics, Dr. Hoffman is intimately involved with the development of the Cancer Prevention Program, an interdisciplinary approach to caring for families with inherited susceptibility to cancer.

Deborah Barbouth, M.D, FACMG

Deborah Barbouth, MD, FACMG

Dr. Deborah Barbouth is an Assistant Professor and Interim Clinical Director at the Dr. John T. Macdonald Foundation Department of Human Genetics and Genomic Medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in Miami, Florida and Medical Director for Newborn Screening for South Florida. She is also the director of the Victor Center for the Prevention of Jewish Genetic Diseases at Miami Children's Hospital.

Dr. Barbouth is board certified in Pediatrics, Clinical and Biochemical Genetics. She maintains her clinical practice at the University of Miami, where she joined the Faculty in July 2005.

Dr. Barbouth received her medical degree magna cum laude with honors from Maimonides University in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Her clinical training in Pediatrics was at Jackson Memorial Hospital/ University of Miami. She then completed clinical training in Medical Genetics at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and the University of Miami. There she received extra training in clinical biochemical genetics. Dr. Barbouth has presented numerous abstracts and platforms at scientific and professional meetings and has published articles in prestigious journals. She is also actively involved in clinical biochemical research and Jewish Genetic Diseases.

Deborah Wasserman, MS

Deborah Wasserman, MS, is a genetic counselor with over 25 years experience in prenatal diagnosis and medical genetics clinics. As the genetic counselor for the Victor Center for the Prevention of Jewish Genetic Diseases, Miami, she provides genetic counseling for Ashkenazi Jewish genetic diseases to students, newlywed couples and other patients. Ms. Wasserman provides follow-up counseling and support for those found to be carriers.

As the outreach coordinator for the Victor Center, Miami, she is the liaison between the Victor Center and community. She is available to run educational programs about the Victor Center and Jewish genetic disease screening, tailored to your organizations needs and interests.
