Sunday March 22nd at 9:30 am at Temple Sinai in Cinnaminson, NJ
As part of The Victor Center’s outreach and community education, Faye Shapiro, Genetic Counselor at The Victor Center, gave a presentation to members of the Sisterhood and Mens Club of Temple Sinai in Cinnaminson, New Jersey. The program took place on March 22, 2009 during a monthly Breakfast and was attended by approximately 40 people, including some of the Hebrew High students. The presentation, entitled “What’s in Your Genes? An Overview of Jewish Genetic Diseases,” covered all aspects of screening for recessive disorders in the Ashkenazi Jewish population, as well as an overview of some of the hereditary cancer syndromes. There were lots of questions by audience members and all left with improved knowledge of this important topic. For many who attended, the information was relevant for their children or grandchildren, who are young adults at the appropriate age to screen.
